Channel 5 Interview on Land Girls

Commentator: In taking the roles of 3 Land Girls, all of the actresses have had to trade in their glamorous wardrobes for khaki overalls and wellies. They've also had to learn a range of tricky farm skills.

Anna: Er, we had about 2 weeks rehearsal, erm purely for technical things before we started shooting. And that was, erm, driving tractors. We can all drive that tractor that you saw, milking, erm, threshing which is actually getting the straw to the state it is when you see it on the , on the thing - erm, what else can we do... hedging all, all wonderfully technical farming things.

[cut to Anna throwing stick for a dog. Anna shouts "ready" and throws stick. It apparently hits someone as she says sorry and appears apologetic !!!]

Commentator: The last time we saw Anna Friel get her hands dirty was in the TV soap "Brookside", when she was burying her father Trevor Jordache in the garden.

[ Anna in background says to dog "I moved - run and play some more now as I may knock someone out...]

Her role as the murderous Beth continues to haunt her budding film career....

Anna: David Leland, the director, he said the only way you're ever going to get rid of it is to make a joke of it and he calls me "The Artiste Formerly Known As Beth" - it's really quite funny. I think people are starting to know me more as Anna Friel now - but not as an actress. We'll have to wait and see.

Commentator: The last major film role for Catherine McCormack was in Braveheart as the wife of William Wallace played by Mel Gibson.

Catherine: It was fun. It was great - my first, I've done a small film before that but that was really the big film - that kind of set things rolling and got people to see me in things. So, erm, yeah it was a wonderful experience working with Mel and various people was great.

Commentator: Hard to believe underneath that dishcloth headgear is one of Britain's sexiest actresses, Rachel Weisz, last seen as the love interest for Keanu Reeves in Chain Reaction. But after Land Girls, she;s not rushing back into the arms of a Hollywood heart-throb....

Rachel: I don't really mind where I work, I'm not moving to America. I live in England but I'll go wherever the films are made. I don't have strong feelings about, er, about either. I want to do English films and American films - European films, all different ones. Now I'm more interested in the right script.

Commentator: While Rachel is hoping that Land Girls will open up new acting horizons, Anna Friel is hoping that the film will help her get over her split with "You Bet!" boyfriend Darren Day.

Anna: It's good that I'm working - I'm going straight onto something else but its difficult when you're going through, erm, difficult emotions yourself and then you're having to act being in love or act. I've got to have lots of energy and, erm, quite a lot of comedy, er, throughout the film and having to pretend and put a smiling face on all day is, is quite, it's quite draining, it's quite tiring but er, "c'est la vie" and things like that happen - you know that's life - you learn, you grow and also it's made quite a charged performance 'cos emotions can be real and are quite thoughtful.. but erm... (shrugs shoulders)....
